In this study, in vitro activity of were conducted to determine the possible anthelmintic activity of different solvent extracts like aqueous extract of leaves of cajanus cajan Linn, methanolic extract of leaves of vitex negundo Linn, Ethanolic extract of bark of Euphorbia tirucalli Linn and ethyl acetate extract of leaves of synadiium grantii Linn, methanolic extract of leaves of Euphorbia nerrifolia Linn against Indian worm Pheretima posthuma. With regard to effect of extract of Euphorbia tirucalli Linn, Euphorbia nerrifolia Linn, cajanus cajan Linn showed significant action on earthworm, vitex negundo Linn showed moderate activity. All the extracts were found not only to paralyse (vermifuse) but also death (vermicidal) except ethyl acetate extract of synadiumm graantii.Keywords

Nature Environment and Pollution Technology, Vol 6, No 1 (2007), Pagination: 55-58Abstract
The industrial wastewater contains various biological, organic and inorganic pollutants, and less information is known about their direct effects on human beings. The industrial wastewaters randomly collected from different industries, located at Ogalewadi and Malkapur areas of Karad, were used as test samples. Isolated rectus abdominus muscle preparation was used to study the pharmacological effects of the industrial wastewaters as simulation for the human effects. The composition of the industrial wastewaters was analyzed for its various parameters using standard analytical methods. The results demonstrated the effects of industrial wastewaters on the rectus muscle of frog, which indicates the toxic nature of the wastes. The study helps to elucidate the effects of industrial wastewaters on the vital human functions and will provide information for the management of pollution control.Full Text

Cajanus cajan L (fabaceae) is an important indigenous plant with a lot of traditional importance. The analgesic potency of aqueous extract of the leaves of Cajanus cajan L was investigated using animal model using writhing methods, formalin induced methods. Result showed that aq. extract of Cajanus cajan L increased pain threshold in mice using writhing methods, formalin induced methods. It is concluded that the aqueous extract of Cajanus cajan L can demonstrate strong analgesic potency comparable in a times and dose dependant manner to a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The result tends to suggest that the extracts of Cajanus cajan L leaves posses analgesic activity.Keywords

The present study was designed to prepare sunscreen herbal formulations gel. Hibiscus rosa-sinesis L. (Malvaceae), Rosa Damascena (Rosaceae), Spathodea campanulata L. (Bignoniaceae) is one of the well-known drugs for its therapeutic values in traditional medicine. In the present study the drug was screened for its cosmetic use. All the three herbal drugs containing flavonoid showed sunscreen activity. The sunscreen activities of gel formulations could be related to the free radical scavenging properties of polyphenol compounds in the extracts incorporated in it. The method is performed by UV -visible spectrophotometry in the range of 200-400nm. Result of the extracts alone and gel formulation showed maximum absorbance at 270-300nm.Keywords

Sunscreen resources mostly obtained from plants in form of natural substances which are ability to absorb ultraviolet ray in the UVA region. This paper evaluates UV absorption ability of flowers from various varieties of Clitoria ternata Linn (Fabaceae), Canna indica Linn (Scitaminaceae), as an anti-solar agent. Extracts were prepared by maceration with a mixture of distilled water and methanol (1:1). The method is performed by UV spectrophotometer in the range of 200 to 400 nm and results of all the extracts shows effective UV absorption in the given range.Keywords

Vitex negundo belonging to the family verbanaceae has been reported to posses many medicinal properties according to indigenous system of medicine. The present work deals with antimycobacterial and antimicrobial activity of vitex negundo leaves. The different solvent extracts of the leaves prepared were studied for their antimycobacterial activity by Conventional proportion method and Nitrate reductase assay method. The activity was compared with standard drugs rifampicin and isoniazid. The ethanolic, successive ethanolic and methanolic extracts showed highest antitubercular activity, while petroleum ether extract and chloroform extract was moderately active as compared to other extracts of Nirgundi. Aqueous, benzene, acetone extract does not shows any antitubercular activity Antimicrobial activity of all extracts was screened by Paper Disc method against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. The benzene extract showed significant antimicrobial activity compared to petroleum ether and chloroform extract. Preliminary phytochemicals of all extracts were also investigated.
Conclusion: In conclusion nitrate reductase assay was found to be rapid, inexpensive and easy to perform. It also showed good concordance between conventional proportion method and nitrate reductase assay.
All these findings justified the claim made in the indigenous system of medicine for the use of the plant vitex negundo against tuberculosis and many other micro-organisms.

A simple, selective, rapid and precise reverse phase HPLC method has been developed for the estimation of Deflazacort in pharmaceutical dosage form. A Hypersil BDS C18 (250 mm X 4.6mm) column was used for separation. The mobile phase was ammonium acetate buffer solution: acetonitrile (50:50 v/v). Flow rate 1.0ml/min with detection at 254 nm. The retention time of Deflazacort was 6.03min. Linearity obtained in the concentration range of 20-100μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.998.The result of the analysis were validated statistically and recovery studies confirmed by the accuracy of the proposed method. The proposed RP-HPLC method for the estimation of Deflazacort in dosage form is accurate, precise, linear, robust, simple, rapid and selective.
